Chrome Paint

Has any one used the Eastwood Liquid Chrome paint,Chrome Galvanized Aerosol Paint or the Almost Chrome paint in the Eastwood catalog?

I am looking to touch up some small areas of chrome on a rearend and was wondering if anyone has used spray paint and achieved good results. If anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated. I do not want to have to dissemble the rearend to bake on any coatings.

Thanks,
Rich

Chrome Paint

Eastwood told me they didn't sell the Almost Chrome any more. Its to bad because it looked good and held up very well. I have used the martin-senor chrome and it looks good but dosn't like to be cleared.

The next best thing to chrome I have seen is the stuff that Alsa has and it is in a spray can http://www.alsacorp.com/products/ki...illerchrome.htm

Rag top bird,

Have you used this Alsa Chrome spray paint kit. $115 seems pretty expensive for paint in a spray can, although the results look pretty impressive in their demos.

Shane did you use Almost Chrome spray paint on that grill?

Thanks
Rich

Shane, Thanks, That grill came out nice. But I am looking for a paint closer to the chrome color such as the Alsa Chrome displayed on their webpage.
http://www.alsacorp.com/products/ki...illerchrome.htm
Looking for some feedback to see if the Alsa Chrome is worth it. Or if anyone knows of something that is cheaper that has the same results.
Has anyone used the Alsa Chrome spray paint kit?

Thanks,
Rich

Google innate chrome. It is similar to alsa but cheaper. However, it does not come in a spray can. I have found the killer chrome spray cans for $31. I wonder if you can use any quick drying clear to clear coat. I'm sure you don't have to pay $30 for their spraycan black gloss to get the desired results.

I was wondering if I polished the steel to a mirror finish and sprayed a coat of clear lacquer or urethane over it if it would work out. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks,
Rich

Have used the Almost Chrome paint by Eastwood...........looks very nice and is shiny, does it look like chrome? not a chance. Closest I can say is that is may come close to looking somewhat like a poorly polished aluminum. I don't care who makes a chrome paint or how much they say it looks like chrome............it is still a paint!!! Real chrome is put on in a dip tank with an electrical charge. No paint will replace that look....my 2 cents

This post is many months old now, but for new readers here is a review I did of my experience with Alsa Killer Chrome. http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/als...t=killer+chrome

My review was limited to the aerosol spray version of the paint...and in a nutshell I highly advise taking a pass on this product. There are many negatives but high on the list is the poor atomization from the spray can. Here's a shock I did. The arrows denote blotches resulting from the poor spray pattern or some foreign material in the paint can. Even if you can somehow manage to create a mirror perfect base on which to spray, the aerosol itself will ruin the mirror perfect surface with blotches such as these. Read the reveiw for other problems as well.

I know I would never use a chrome paint to replace true chrome, (bumpers, handles etc). However I will be using some sort of chrome paint for at least one piece of plastic trim where the replacement part is not like the original and it just isn't worth trying to get someone to vacuum metalizing it. (original was a separate trim piece and new part is molded into the full part.)

If it is as good as some of the pictures I have seen online ranging from large vehicle parts to model cars and cell phones, I will probably use it on all my other plastic parts that I would otherwise send off to be vacuum metalized. Either way both have to be clear coated for durability so if the shine is about the same I figure I might as well do it and for probably a third or less of the cost. I'll have to post some pictures if it comes out well.

Right now I'm trying to figure out which "chrome" paint to use. Eastwood has one that seems pretty good. One I saw online that had an excellent finish appears to require a special two nozzle gun and isn't sold in hobbyist sized bottles. I've seen a couple that are used for model cars. I am going to the hobby store today to see what they have and also the auto paint store.

Anyone have any suggestions please let me know. I'll post my results as they come in.
Jason

Hey Rich,

It sounds like you are trying to fix up a couple of scratches in the rear end. I would just polish them out with a 3M buffing disc and clear over top to avoid moisture rusting the metal. Fast and easy trick.
