Here's a smaller pic. Looks like you need some paint and alittle wire organizing.
It's just a whole lot easier when the motor is pulled. JMO

Cole, that's a different picture of the old 305 that's not in there anymore.

It won't fit under the hood, this one barely fits as it is.

Think i should paint the engine bay?

GRIdLOCK 11-06-2010 07:39 PM

Hey, I have that same air cleaner, it's sexy.......,
Just curious but does that clear PVC tubing hold up good as fuel line? I used some once to siphon some gas and it seemed to have taken some of the flex out of it, like it was going to probably turn brittle if it was used with fuel too long.

First a leaf blower might help, gather up the wires and bundle them; of course paint.

I would for sure get rid of that air cleaner, it is restrictive, the decision is performance or sexy; do not believe I have ever seen sexy car parts, never had the urge to bed my car; to each his own.

There is an air cleaner I believe K&N has it that the top flange fits down over the carb and will allow the use of a taller and larger filament helping motor inhale more.

Will a drop base cleaner work on an edelbrock? The clear hose is fuel line that i got from ace hardware. It does lose its flexibility after a little while but it has not gotten brittle at all. Do you think some red or yellow spark plug wires would make it look a little better? Maybe a performance look?

sqzbox 11-07-2010 09:21 AM

Yeah, Edelbrock makes them and I had one on my 305 88 formula and it fit no problem. Cheapest price in the store is AZ or Advance auto. :D

Here's what I did.....

I just had to use the leaf blower thing, hope you understood that as just something funny to say.

The engine bay it really all your own to finish out. I would suggest you look at different cars to get your ideas; choose the details you like best and apply them to your car. What style? race; custom; clean stock, each has a very distinct look and tend to follow a theme.

You want the dress ups to look like it belongs, for instance you mentioned yellow spark plug wires, for me no thanks. However I run MSD so red fits there, matches the cap, my other hotrod I have Crane it has a blue cap, I run Morosso Blue Max on that car; yellow just does not fit.

Here is a link to look at notice it says deeper flange; PN 1221

This part is common and most likely can be found at pep boys, Oralie's maybe auto zone. You can buy this stuff and with care install it to check the fit, they will not have a problem taking it back if does not fit. Take care opening the box and do not scratch it.

Just one other item to clue you in on, good old glossy black rustoleum brush and spray on will do wonders to an engine bay. Cheap fun with a good reward.

bigdog7373 11-07-2010 07:37 PM

i like when the engine looks like its just bolted into the car, not like its part of the car, if you know what i mean. i want it to look like there is barely anything connected to it, i guess a race car theme kinda.
