cleaning a catalyic converter

Is it possible to clean a catalytic converter while it is still on the car? I have a ford escape and it's the one on the backside of the engine and I can't get it off.

NO. Those are notorious for the cores melting down. You probably need a new one.

Cleaning a cat is always wishful thinking.

LATECH is right on.
