Cleaning leather??

Is there anything that will remove mildew stains from leather?

steam cleaner and a pencil eraser will do wonders with leather

You absolutely do not want to steam leather. You will shrink it and when it dries, it will be stiff as a board. The only thing that removes mildew is bleach. You can use Tilex, which has about a 10 to 1 bleach solution in it, followed by a clean soft towel. You need to let the Tilex sit on the surface for a while to let the bleach kill the mildew. You may have to repeat the treatment a couple times before the mildew is all gone. Then follow that up with Lexol leather cleaner followed by Lexol conditioner. These come in spray bottles also and are available on line separately and in kits.

Dan Will the bleach affect the color (red)?

DanTwoLakes 08-28-2009 10:07 PM

This is a very mild bleach solution, it should not affect the color at all. If you're worried about it, you can mix your own solution 15 to 1 or 20 to 1 with water and bleach. In other words, 20 ounces of water to 1 ounce of bleach.

Thanks

I'll give it a try tomorrow.

Success

Thanks for the advice. I used some Tilex on it and cleaned up almost all the stain.
