clear coat haze at body lines

So I'm in the final stages of cutting, componding, and polishing my fresh base coat / clear coat glossy black paint job and things are going GREAT! But I'm noticing a slight haze where the flat area of the panel meets a body / belt line. sort of like my polisher isn't reaching that area. What's the best way to handle this? Push harder with the foam pad & polisher or break out a can of elbow grease and giver her hell? Also, what product would you recomend? I'm using the Meguiars stuff. Have fine cut, swirl remover, glaze, ulimate polish... in stock.

this just means you're being cautious. Just let it fly on the edges, rolling your edges off the edge. Make sure your pad is wet with compound as well.

Ultimate compound works great and it works fast. I usually start out with it and go onto fine cut cleaner and follow by swirl remover.

3m makes a three step compound perfect it works well with the right pads

be careful ,it could be a lot of things,my first guess is sanding scratches coming back because your using Meguiars and it's more for detail shops than bodyshops its full of scratch fillers because its sold to amitures at the parts stores...I had the same trouble when I was using it on black cars...I'd do my final polish and everything looked great then the next day the scratches are back which looks like a haze...so I switched to presta compounds , polishes and pads and had much better results but still not perfect and it took a long time to get it there...
I was sanding with 1500 then compounding but as I later found out with the wrong pad ,I was using the white pad and I needed the coarser orange pad...
That helped a lot but I was still spending way too much time. So I asked a few pros here and as per their suggestions I started sanding 1500 then 2000 then 2500 even 3000 ....the scratches cant comeback if they aren't there ,That was my first time sanding with more than one grit....big improvement....
My next step was changing my compounds and pads again I started using everything from chem guys and it really took my buffing up to the next level.I used to love doing black car right up to the buffing part then I dreaded black. I'm doing a black one right now and Its actually not so bad I dare say I don't mind buffing black at all now I still wont say I love it but I don't mind doing it at all...
I bought the complete buffing kit from Chem guys four pads and two compounds and two polishes and the pad lube and it was not only a deal its was about the best money I've ever spent...You guys just wont believe it until you've tried it ...Stop messing around with parts store stuff and 3M and step up to the next level...with Chem guys...buffing black is a whole different story and when you can buff black to a flawless finish and do it quick you can buff anything with ease....I thank "Shine" for this ,I was having a tough time polishing my show paint to perfection....Not any more ...

Having a wet pad could be another cause of a haze the compounds or polishes dry up and smear ,leaving a haze usually a couple drops of compound are all you need....to do a sq ft. ...be extreamly careful at the edges and the lines VERY careful..Chem guys pad lube/conditioner prevents the dried up polish and smearing problems....

it's an eye opener isn't it mike. i ran across chemical guys years ago . just picked some up to try. at the time i was using 3m and hated it . the only 3m i ever liked was super duty and it sucks on todays urethane. i had a cabinet full of finessit II . once i tried the cg i threw that junk away. never like mequiars for anything other than wax . prefer mothers over it .
i use the Vseries and mothers carnuba now since they dropped the old line.

Is that "haze" on the surface looking like a texture or is it IN the clear looking "milky"? Having a milky look above a bodyline like that is often caused by the clear being applied too thick and it sags down into that area. Not being atomized properly it's full of solvent and solids and is like a mud slide basically. If this is the case, there is nothing you can do as far as repairing that other than removing it and re-spraying color and base there. The only thing IF this is the problem that you could play with would be to sand it thinner and leave it breath and it may just still have trapped solvents that can escape. I have seen this work before with hoods and things, open it up with 800 and leave it.

What gets me is after the first cut with the first compound (V-32) and the orange pad I think, it cant be that good that quick so I get to looking real close with my glasses on and still cant see any sanding scratches or dullish spots so just to make sure I go over it one more time...I wasted a lot of time doing that until I got used to it....
Then it shines so well you think how much better can it get and move up to the V-34 and holly crap its much better ,it looks like your done and you haven't even started with the polishes yet your really tempted to skip a step.
by the time your on the finish polish you cant believe how nice it is and I'm still amazed how I catch myself smiling at how darn pretty it's turning out...I'm going to try a few of their other products made especially for black cars in a couple weeks.....
LOL,I pulled the black car out to wash it and 4 times within two hours, people stopped to check out the paint job (no sheetmetal at all on the front end yet) and said its about the nicest black paint job they've seen....What gets me is the 5 weeks of blocking filling and epoxying and blocking it took to straighten it and all anyone sees is a great paint job...
Thanks to SPI products and Chem guys, getting this kind of quality has gotten much easier....I wish I had listened and tried this stuff a couple years ago it could have saved me a lot of backache..
I'll use the presta and meguires but they'll be sitting on top of the fence and used for target practice ....

Just finished this 1 using SPI Black and Universial clear.
Cut it all the way to 4000 them Chem guys v series.
Looks wet even 2 weeks after buffing.
SPI and Chem Guys V series can't B beat
Also doin a 3 window with SPI Red and UV Clear.
Got small parts shot and cleared will do body next weet

guys, this was posted in 2012. He either got it handled by now or is still buffing and the body lines are down to shiny metal and he's in need of a shave.

It's common for body lines/edges to remain hazy after everything is bright and shiny. Just means The OP is being careful. When I think I'm done but not really done it's usually those edges/body lines I have to attack. It's very common and when you see guys who don't get all their scratches out and leave haze it's also in those same areas. It's so common I really check the edges/body lines because of it.
