clear gravel guard paint

several years ago, new cars had a paint about 6-8 inches up onthe rocker panel that was clear.it was to protect that area from rock chips.it was pretty ugly, but it would be perfect for under fenders, running boards, etc.problem is, i cant find it.3-m makes a clear chip guard in a rattle can, but i dont believe that is it.this stuff had a rough texture, but was also clear.anyone know where you can get this or something like it?

I remember that stuff.

Don't know how effective it was, or if its available in the aftermarket.

Are the OEMs still using it? Perhaps the newer coating products they're using provide enough protection on their own that they don't feel its required anymore?
