It should shine, but is your existing paint in good enough condition still to clear coat?

I did just that recently. Taped off race stripes on an overall matte job, scuffed the matte and sprayed gloss clear over pars. The gloss is great. Just as good as putting it over base I would say. It looks a little hazier than normal in those areas but still looked good. The gloss over the matte made some cool looking racing stripes.

I've also done this with the same results as the previous posters.
There is indeed a gloss finish left, but with a cloudy look to it. I think it's called DOI (Depth Of Image) that suffers when glossing over matte. I've wondered if adding a little original color tint to the gloss clear would help remove the haziness? Sorta like a candy. Haven't actually tried this yet, just thinking.....? |
