Oh well, maybe business is slow for him right now so he is lowering the price?????

I would avoid Jet Performance carbs. I had 3 in a row that would not run. kept returning them until I just got tired of sending them back. Now I have a 400.00 piece of junk on my counter. They do weird stuff to their carbs.
might be because in the email it sounds like cliffs surply'n the core..
and the o/p is in this case surply'n cliff with the core(carb)
and why you got a price of 500. bones for a early 70's high demand carb over just a rebuild on the o/p carb..
