It doesent matter what came off the car if you are going with a manual transmission. You can use what ever size flywheel you want. Chances are the scatter shield is made for the big flywheel but there is no reason you cant use the small flywheel. You can't use a small flywheel bellhousing with the big flywheel, the big flywheel won't fit inside the small flywheel bellhousing. You can post a picture of the starter and someone could tell you what you have to work with. You said you were not racing the car so there is really no need for a scatter shield unless you are Don Garlits. They used aluminum bellhousings on Corvettes, how many horror stories have you heard of them taking someones foot off? It's up to you on what you want to use. If it's a hot rod why would you add weight to the car? everyone else wants to reduce weight.
