Coating on aftermarket panels ( E- coat )

A guy wants me to paint his hood on a 2000 chevy ( s10 ) blazer.
He just put it on ( aftermarket ) and installed blanket underhood.

His concern : Should I paint the underside of hood also ( which would require him to remove hood again) or will the coating be sufficient that is on it ?

Costs is a factor for him.

Any advice appreciated.

Are you sure it is e-coat?
OEM replacement sheet metal is e-coated, some aftermarket sheet metal is e-coated, but an awful lot of it is the cheapest black primer they can apply.

Pick a spot and rub it real good with a lacquer thinner wet rag.. if nothing happens then its more than likely e-coat. If not it is the chinese special.

Either way I would coat the underside of the hood with the same finish you are putting on the topside.

If it is real e-coat,outside of it looking like crap,it will "do".
Drill a couple of 1/8" "alignment" holes in both of the hinges.
This way you won't monkey up the paint putting it back on and getting it aligned.
With having the blanket, your paint work won't have to be "great",just enough to make it "respectable".
