Cobbling in some O2 sensors
 
I have some left over wideband O2 sensors from my daily driver. I was thinking about welding in two bungs on my carb'd hotrod truck to see how close the jetting is. I would prefer not to hack into the long tube headers to get accurate readings. Can I go in through the exhaust tubing? Does it matter?

If it is temporary they sell clamps with a bung in them. They are more of a sleeve than a traditional clamp and you wont have to destroy anything.

I like the idea of a temporary jig! What do you mean by clamp? Where/how does it attach? Do you have a link this?

Are they heated OEM sensors, or just a single wire O2 sensor? With heated sensors you can put them in just about any section of pipe before the CAT and still get a reading. If they are unheated they need to be close enough to the engine for the exhaust to heat them up.

You also need to mount them vertical, in the range between about 10 and 2 o'clock so that condensation in the exhaust does not pool on the sensor. In other words the plug on the sensor needs to point relatively straight up, not down or to the side.
