Code scanner and chase

Own a 1987 Chevy 5.7 fuel injection and need to know what code scanner would work best on my vehicle. Also getting ready to pull my intake manifold and want to clean out bolt holes, need to know what thread chase I need for the holes? Would you recommend changing all bolts, if so what size do I need? Should I put a dab of lock tight on the bolts? I certainly had to do it with my exhaust manifold bolts, every doggone one of them came loose. I've been advised to use gasket seal on the ends, but not on the main gasket. Suggestions on the pros and cons of gasket seal. I have been trying to get around changing the intake manifold gaskets, but looks like I've ran out of excuses. Got any advise about getting all the wiring out of the way? What don't I have to remove? Sat. will be my day of reckoning, all tricks of the trade would be welcomed. The EKG valve does not have to be removed, correct? Matter of fact I read it makes a good handle. This is why I ask you what does not need removed.

Tommy

???????????????

Hi for the code scanner, you need a OBD 2,you dont have to replace intake bolts, unless theyre good and rusty, and you want to replace them. take a intake bolt to NAPA,and have them give you the correct size tap. when you replace the intake gaskets,i always take a center punch and punch a series of marks about every 1.2 inch,(this is ONLY on the short ends) then use RTV,put a 1/4 inch bead,on ends, and about 1/8 inch up onto the head side gaskets.have everything ready to install, put RTV on,install intake BEFORE RTV sets up.

Please clarify jumper wire

I have never used a code scanner so your comment about a jumper wire is way over my head. Can you explain in more detail the steps I must take to scan my vehicles codes.
