Coil Spring holdup

Coil Spring holdup

Maybe some in here can answer this question since the two companies I emailed havenít. For a Coil Spring that is 5Ē OD what would be the ID? I know it depends on the coils wire diameter. But there has to be some way to design the mounting points if you donít know the exact vehicle weight to select the exact in/lb spring needed. Or is it just an estimated guess by subtracting twice the guestís wire width from the outside diameter?

Mike

It makes sense to me that the OD minus 2x the wire diameter would be the ID.

Give me a minute to check on a coil spring I've got.

Edit -- Yep. Take the OD and subtract 2x the wire diameter.

Most spring mounts for 5" springs are 3 3/4" diameter. It does not have to be a tight fit.
