cold start question.
I have a 1969 firebird with a 455 30 over ,5c heads appx. 8.9 :1 compression using a Hc02d camshaft 232/240 @ 0.50 ,472/480 lift ,Rhoads lifters(leakdown type) 4 tube headers ,Edelbrock performer intake and 750 edelbrock carb.HEI Dist.set at 12deg mec.15 deg advance 36 total at 2200 Rpm, 350 automatic with 2000 stall . I live in Indiana and even as hot as it is during this time I still have to run the chock or swat the gas padel to keep the engine running untill it warms a little or if I dont it loops real bad, once it warms up it runs fine. if I remove the heads and have them cut to give me between 9.2 to 9.5:1 would that help with the cold start issue? any advice would help.

carb is probably a little out of tune. my '67 Falcon has a 200 I6 that even with the auto choke will not idle unless I revv it up a little, after that it idles. havn't gotten around to ajusting the carb
