Cold Weather Painting

I was planning on waiting until next spring when the weather warmed up to paint my car. If I did paint it a little later down the road how long would I need to heat my garage after painting so the primer and paint would cure. If I could even sand my car down and put epoxy primer on it would help me save time next spring when I should be driving it instead of working on it. I live just south of Louisville, Ky. where weather isn't harsh but can sometimes be real cold.

Thanks,
Danny

There was some discussion of painting in the cold in this thread. I think the consensus is that the metal should be kept above 55F during spraying and for as long as possible afterward, at least 48 hours. If you have a heat lamp you can use that too, moving it around the vehicle, but for a complete paint job it's probably just better to keep the heat on for a good long while!

I might be better off waiting until springtime and work on the mechanical aspect of the car. I could heat the garage for awhile but probably not long enough for a good cure.

Thanks,
Danny

Keep in mind that the metal temp is the important part. I will heat the garage and vehicle for a day or so before painting, and atleast a day after. It takes some time for the vehicle to warm up, if it is cold outside. If it is staying in the garage all of the time, the actual metal temp is likely not as low as the temp outside, unless the temp outside has been that low or lower for a long time.
