I remember when the 327 was very popular.Biggest cause was over tightening the V belt.We did this because the 327 revved so fast it tossed the belt almost every first gear full throttle shift.We made deep pulleys until we were smart enough to use brackets that moved the alternator(remember generators back then) and used a shorter belt.
who didnt carry a spare belt back then?and "no" the panty hose/nylon trick advertised back then ,did not work

Shhhhhh.Don't tell them that Vinnie about the panty hose.I'm still using that one to get them off women.LOL!!!!.
