comparison of two camshafts

cam #1 194 204 duration at .05 lift 398/420 lift with 104 104 centers

Cam #2 194 204 duration at .05 lift 398/422 lift at 107 117 centers

Both are melling cams 22109 22111

I have a 76 monte carlo with a 305 with a 176 194 duration cam. The two melling cams have the right duration and lift but what would these cams act like in my 305 with their different lobe seperation angles. Thank you guys in advance

Because the lobe center differences on the 22111 it probably wont be emission legal. It has more over lap. Here a 76 would still have to pass emissions. Both seem like a cam designed for a truck. They have good low end torque but are not for high rpm power.

If you go here it describes them pretty good.

Hope that was the info you were looking for.

I'm here in Canada, actually Nova Scotia. We don't have emission tests here. Cars last less than 10 years here because of winter and salt used on the roads and close proximity to the ocean. Anyway what I'm trying to ask is whats the difference in these two cams [performance wise} if used in a 305?

Your engine will change its personallity as much from day to day as those cams will be different from one to the other.

but being in a cold climate(hard starts) and a 305(low compression) go with the wider lobe seperation cam.

The wider lobe center will give you a broader, flatter torque and horsepower curve. Also improved idle qualities.
