compression

what should the compression be on a 90 4.3 chevy?

Do you mean the compression ratio? or are you doing compression test for engine condition.

Compression test numbers from 140-170 would be nice. Best to have them all about equal values, this states that the engine is wearing evenly and that nothing like rings/valves have broke/wore out in one particular cylinder.
