I am told that my media blaster will require me to purchase a compressor that will run at a minimum of 9cfm @ 90psi , can anyone tell me if I should purchase a compressor that will max out at the minimum that is required or do I go with one that runs at a higher cfm? Appreciate all the help before.

Sales tactics (sales BS actually ) being what they are you can be sure a tool that is rated for air consumption will have the lowest numbers possible in order to make it look good, most air tools take considerably more than the usual optimistic ratings they have. Of course with air compressors just the opposite will be true for the same marketing reasons and most air compressors will be rated at quite a bit more than they will realistically produce so with that in mind plus a sensible working margin that "9 CFM" blaster will require a compressor of at least 12 to 14 CFM and even that will cut it close, even bigger would be better.

Thank you very much , I dont really understand all of the specs a compressor is labeled with but I will take your advice and look for a higher rated compressor. I know they get fairly or rather outrageously and ridiculously more expensive but I am very excited to start using my new blaster. Once again I appreciate your response and advice.

I just laid out the framework for a new wiki article on this topic: Choosing a compressor; I know this is a common question here. The wiki article is currently just an organized list of headings and questions, but I'm sure it will be built gradually over time.

We do currently have an Air compressor silencer article, and I just put in a good bit of work on our Media blasting article, so this new article seems like a logical next step.
