Comp's L79 Nostalgia Cam ?

Looking & planning a possible 327 build in the future & came across this cam.It is spose to be a modern version of the L79 camshaft.Original cam specs were DUR @ .050 =I 222/E 222. LSA/ICL= 114/??? Lift = .447/.447. Specs for the L79 Nostalgia cam = DUR @ .050=I 229/E 236. LSA/ICL = 112/108. Lift = .468/.462. Has anybody used this cam? Will it make good power,or,is it just for noise & show? I heard the idle on youtube. It sounded good @ idle, but,I didn't anything about the performance of it.

I was just curious about this cam.I had been looking over the specs of the L79/327 & came across this one.I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with it.The L79 ran 11:1 CR.I don't think I'd wanna try that with today's fuel w/o going with a good aluminum head.

Ifthose specs are perfect for your engine and the performance you want, then that is a great cam.
What do you have in the engine and what would you like the vehicle to do?
You know I and a few others will try to get you to use some kind of roller cam

Richard/fbird88 or any others want to work on this cam choice?

Thanks joker, even at my mature age(not what the boss thinks) I really like the sound of a powerful engine with a good cam and exhaust.

I'm still in the process of tryin to get the car @ this point.I haven't even fully decided on an engine yet.Always had a soft spot for 327's.Especially the L79.I've owned 1 that I put in a 66 Chevy truck.Still have the 461 heads to it.A wristpin ruined the block. The car is spose to have a 283 in it,but,I have suspicions that it may actually be a 327.I'm spose to go look @ it next Sat.

How about this one.

12-673-4 - NOSTALGIA PLUS Mechanical Flat Tappet Camshafts

It would be more compatible to 11:1 SCR , than the hydraulic one ya mentioned.

I've wondered about the Nostalgia range also, almost / nearly got one myself

I saw that 1 also Duke. That cam is Comp's modern version of the old 30/30 Duntov cam.Used I think in the 375 HP Vette engines.I have a freind that had the original version in a 283.It would shake the fenders on his Biscayne.LOL.

Joker, how do you like the power delivery? wide power band with top end charge?
snotty hard hitting mid range ,a little rough around the edges with a rough idle?
flat torque curve, nice daily driver with a little enhancement over stock?

I used a 30/30 cam in a 283 with 2.02 heads, when I was in high school. I also converted to shoulderless screw in studs in metal shop and ported the heads on the milling machine.
I ruined 4 valve grinding stones when I did my own 3 angle grind in the mechanics shop.
this junk(was junk when I finished with machining) went into a 64 chevyII. actually went fairly well
