Can someone tell me aproximately how many amps an engine computer would need to run?

I just bought an engine that would like to convert to a homemade computer system (megasquirt). So want to have a power supply (no car batteries in the house) that I can hook up in my little basement workshop while putzing away on this thing.

I can't answer your question, but have you thought of an old desktop computer power supply to power it? They have 5 and 12 VDC output. Amperage ratings for those should be on the side of the unit. I think it should more than power your ECM, especially if it's not driving the injectors.
