Why not build your own Hemmi? It's a lot easier than it sounds, I built my first computer 3 years ago with zero knowledge and a couple of books and it turned out just fine. Fast too compared to the dregs being offered up in the consumer targeted main stream market.
For $850 US you could build a screamer of a computer including a fast video card for the...ahem...kids games. :p

Nowadays Hemi you can walk into a discount computer shop and pick the components you want and they will assemble it for a small fee or even free. After that it is just software installation and fine tuning the system properties at most. I understand it can seem daunting but if you have a computer already then you can always go online and ask the questions or look them up. It may be slightly more expensive to build then buy but I am the master of this machine now, and just like cars you will never forget.
Besides most new cars are full of computers anyway.

Umm yeah you can get a dell they are good.. gateways are supposed to be good ones too... DO NOT GET A COMPAQUE OR AN HP...
I built the computer I am using right now... Hemmi if you would like to build one you could give me your budget and I could reccommend a fast cheap, reliable (at least as much as you can with windows) computer... hell if I knew you better I would build the whole thing for you for 20 bucks labour... (if I wasn't so broke I'd do it free) anyhow.. if you wanted to think about doing it I could help you build a good system... give you some tips on how not to fry your chips, also give you info about which type of ram is best, what type of processor, graphics and sound cards... and even tell you how to setup the thing... Of course that is if you want and trust me enough... The offer is there if you want |

I love Dell's. Of course I make a large portion of my income repairing them as well as HP/Compaq, Gateway etc. I would not take one if it was given to me. They are riding on their name ( like Pansonic and Sony - don't get me started. BTW CET stand for Certified Electronics Tech. I know what I am talking about )
If you can't build your own find a local shop to do it for you. It is a better deal and YOU control what goes in it. I just upgraded a Dell for a cust and had to use their cd burner because the case is an odd shape and a "normal" burner would not fit. Dells burner cost $257 - a Lite-On costs $85 and they are in the top 3 manufacturers. Nuff said!!! |

I like Dell's and gateways. But I would preffer on buliding one. I am IC3 Certified and for you to learn how to build one would be great knowledge to you and also less expecsive. With a price range of 7-850 you can but a lot of speed into that computer. I bulid one about a month ago for $600. So if your willing to put a comple hours into it you save yourself a bundle.

I work for a city that uses only Dell's and they are very good machines. The 3 year warrenty itself makes the Dell a better deal then home assembly in my opinion, but if you build it yourself you will save a few bucks. As for Gateway's, they are good pc's, but their support is lacking in comparison to Dell or Compaq.

Dells. i got one last year. it works GREAT. they charged me $300 more than what i thought so make SURE they dont add any extras you dont know about, i.e. make sure you ask the total before you hang up. i renegotiated but only after i threatened to send it back (30 day satisfaction guar.) on tv they advertise $499 system. perfect! as is with no upgrades is fine and cant beat the price. few extra bucks for a 17" screen. that's all you need. i gotta "free" cd burner and am paying like $800 tho because i waited too long to send in for the rebates. if you are over 30 days they SCREW you out of it.
Dell scored at the top of the list for dependability, they are the best, which pissess me off because the box it came in said MADE IN CHINA AND I HATE CHINA!! so buyer beware, those phone salesman ask you "did you want this or that" and they dont say anything about the added cost. |

Check with your local cable provider or phone comapany. Some times they have DSL servce and lease you a computer for about what the serice cost. Brother has one from SW Bell its a Compaq and dose well has all the stuff you need loaded on it. And they upgrade for free I think. Just a thought!
