Computer controlled HEI

Does anyone know if this can be used without a computer. It is not perminant just to test start an engine. If so a diagram or instructions would be greatly appreciated. It is an IN cap coil type. I am just trying to help a buddy get his project out of his garage

Thanks in advance
Chet

What exactly are you trying to do start a engine with the coil in cap type of Gm HEI?

If so all you have to do is run a hot lead to the positive side of the cap

there are 5 positions 3 in the back 2 in the front it will be the one marked Batt

WHat rob said is correct, the terminal will be marked on the coil cap. The wiring harness that comes out of the rear won`t plug into anything since there is no computer to plug into. the harness that comes out of the front plugs into the distributor cap behind where the power wire connects. It will work to get it out of the garage, but I wouldn`t drive it with it, as the engine will have no timing advance without the computers aide.

You can block the computer controled advance and set initial at around 27 degrees. It will run well enough to get you around. I have done the same thing on race cars but run the timing up to 32 to 37 deg depending on cam and so on.
