computer interface

Hi, I want to learn how to use a laptop to interface with the computer in current vehicles. Does anyone do this? I'm just curious now but would like to learn a bit about it. What software do I need to have? Will I have to make my own cables? That sort of thing. Thanks Steve

Here's a couple of links to browse through:

HP Tuners

EFI Live

Both of these softwares have forums so you can read posts made by others and see if it might be something you'd be interested in. I have the EFI Live but haven't taken the time to become very knowledgable on it, I primarilary use it when I throw a code and need to diagnose a problem.

I built a cable last year and used this software
My lap top didnt like the software or I did something wrong when I built the cable. I think it had more to do with the com port not being powered on the lap top. I need to dig it out and try with my "new" lap top.

This looks interesting but what, if anything, is available for the Ford EEC IV system? (1987)

Anything for 98 GM diagnostics?

I like that site (ALDLcable).. there's some good stuff there that I'll be able to use for my 89 S-10.

I can't seem to find anything for my 98 Lumina though...

I'm having ABS troubles (likely a sensor), but I want to find a way to retreive a code for it. The browsing I've done so far, there's nothing out there??

Does anyone know what I can do to get what I'm looking for?

Thanks,

RR.

I am wondering if that is the wheel bearing and hub assembly, I know I have replaced a couple of them on vehicles due to abs problems and wheel bearing noise issues. Usually its the left front that gives the issue first. I know how to check it with a DVOM, it sends out A/C current when you spin the wheel when you have the DVOM hooked up to it. The vehicle should be OBD2 complaint. Read further up this sheet someone had something on here for an ALDL site check it out. Let me know how you do, and what the problem is.
