confused on my 305

Hey whats up i am the proud owner of an 83 gmc sierra classic 1/2 ton pickup and i just rebuilt the 305 and now i am having problems with the crankshaft not turning. the main caps were not marked and got mixed up but i heard that they are consecutively numbered from front to back is that true.. see the crank is forged steel and has never been turned down and i used standard size bearings. when i torque the mains down i lose all rotation. i put standard size rod bearings on it too but i tightened them down and they all rotate and pump. im so confused. help me please

83sierraclassic,

I want to be sure I am understanding your post before I respond.

Are you saying that you can not turn the engine over as you twist the crank by hand or with a wrench on the front bolt on the crank, so you can install the connecting rods and pistons? Or are you saying that you got the engine running and now for some reason it doesn't crank over any longer, like it is "stuck" in place?

Glad to help just want to be sure I am following your troubles.
