I purchased this machine a couple days ago and can't seem to get it to stitchs correctly. (Or in my mind) the loop that's usually found on the bottom of the material that holds the stitches tight is on top???? Is this correct??? the manual I have is very vague in analizing these thread issues.

Stitching should be equally tight from the top and from the bottom. If the thread is straight on the bottom, the tension is too tight on the bobbin case, or the top thread tension is too loose. If the thread is straight on the top, the top tension is too tight, or the bobbin tension is too loose.

To the sewing machine's motor. You'll probably have to bet a different belt, too.

I'm going to hunt for this pulley today,

what am I doing wong when the needle won't pick up the bobbin thread?

I've rethread both with no luck. I lifted the machine up to look underneath turning the wheel towards me to pick up the bobin thread, the out side of the bobbin case moves but the inside were the bobin is does not move???

Is the needle in correctly? Have you ever had a mechanic look at the machine?

just bought the machine, it is fairly new used a couple times by the previous owner. It worked fine before, I sewed two pieces of carpet and was maybe practicing with some scraps and it stopped sewing

Is the top thread on the machine correctly threaded? Do you have the bobbin thread installed correctly? The thread pulls off the bobbin to the left side. If you put it in backward the bobbin thread won't get picked up. You also need to get the bobbin thread under the spring steel tension on the side of the bobbin case. Are you threading the needle from left to right? Does the thread go through the thread guide just above the needle at the bottom of the needle bar?

thanks for all the tips and advice, don't laugh but the belt was off the machine, if that makes any sence. I put it back on and everythig worked ok.
Still trying to get the tentions in sinc.

The belt was off the machine? Did you change the motor pulley? If so, you really need to tighten the belt or adjust the motor pulley so that it is in a straight line between it and the machine pulley, 'cuz that should never happen.

I think it may have come off when I tilted the machine. The pulley i have is a 3" If I get the 1 3/4" to slow the machine down would I need a different belt?

You're going to lose 2" of belt length with a 1 3/4" pulley, so if you don't have 2" of adjustment, you'll need a 2" shorter belt.
