Convert speedo to Electric

I want to keep the gauges I have, so I need to convert the speedo to electric.
I see services offered from vendors:
http://redlinegaugeworks.com/
http://classicinstruments.com/

But, could I just go to the car I got the engine/trans from (2002 LS1) and rig up the works behind my face and pointer? (I know I just made that sound real easy).
The other gauges (Temp and gas) are pretty simple. The Amp to Volt may be a bit tricky- I will take advice here also- I admit I have not done much searching on that subject.
Thanks,
Charles Major

Everything you want to do is possible, but the amp-to-volt change will take a differentr meter movement.

Amp meters go in series with the power line/source and reads Current, a volt meter goes from the main line to ground and reads Voltage.

I think I'd get ahold of either of the suppliers you listed and ask them directly.

First things first what are working on? What have you swapped in. If you've swapped a LS1 and matching tranny it will all ready be electric. The ECM take the signal from the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) and controls the speedometer.

Here is another recent thread if this is what you are trying to do. The search function is a beautiful thing.

I do have an LS1+trans from a 2002- It is going into a 1953 ZIM Russian Goverment Limo (Like a 1950 Imperial with jump seats). Sorry I dont mention the car much as some people dont want to put a Commie car on the road.
So I dont really want to convert the electric signal to a mech drive (I did find that thread in my search and agree that GPS tool is cool). I want to keep the face but put the speedo works from a 2002 LS1 car behind- I know I need to flash the computer for the bigger tires.
Thanks
