I did mine at home on my 62 pontiac. Luckilly, I have the factory service manuals, which includes the instructons for the top. The most important detail is where to place the back bow (above the rear window) Each car is different.

www.dearbornclassics.com can get you reproduction service manuals and body manuals for your car. you could email them to see if they have a convert diagram for your car on file. they sell the top kits, they may well have somthing.

re: convertable top

Automan9:

If you buy a quality top it should come with detailed instructions, although you should also have the factory service manual.

I don't know what your budget is or who you are buying your top from, but make sure you call and talk to the supplier in person to see what instructions are included with their tops. If they say there are none, buy elsewhere.

Many people sell tops for convertibles, but not all care to make installation user-friendly

automan9,

I looked on the autokrafters website, and that top seems a little cheap to me (just my 2 cents worth). Again, I don't know your budget, but if you plan to use this as a dailly driver, you want a very durable top. Just make a call to autokrafters and get more info since their catalog doesn't give any that I could see.

Also, check out the link below. I'm not saying to buy from them, but see the difference in their tops. They offer many options PLUS they have a link on that page that explains what a do-it-yourselfer will need to know about installation.

Hope this helps

I just put a new convertible top on for the first time on my Corvette.

I got the top from Al Knock Corvette Interiors and they also sold a how-to video on DVD. (Corvette Central will rent the DVD.) The video was invaluable. I couldn't have done near as good of job without it.

I would guess that seeing that video would be beneficial no matter what kind of car you are doing.
