Converter lockup questions

Yep, more TH350 woes.. well not really.

This 350 in my 84 cutlass locks at 40 MPH (well about 45MPH speedo off a little).

Is there anyway to delay the lockup till about 55mph? I mean, I like the increase in power to the wheels and all, but if I glide the pedal down slow to accelerate, I can feel it lock and it wont down shift at all(3rd). If I just smash the pedal it will downshift though.

It also only locks if I have the pedal down anywhere from just a touch to WOT (over 40 MPH) Which is normal if I remember right.

I DO NOT KNOW IF THERE IS A WAY TO DELAY, BUT ON MY 700R4 I PUT A SWITCH AND I CUT OUT THE OVERDRIVE WHEN I AM IN TOWN, SO IT DOES NOT GO IN AND OUT ALL THE TIME, IT DOES GET HARD ON THE TRANY AFTER A WHILE, WHEN IT "WONDERS"

Try this.

When it shifts into lock up tap the brake pedal.
Does it unlock and go to 3rd?
Does it unlock and go to 2nd?
If it goes to 3rd. there is a switch inside the transmission that can be changed.

There are several choices. Each having a different value that will raise LU.
You will have to drop the pan to see what color it is.
The value is from 36 - 55 lbs.

Finaly got it out on the beltway again, below 55 I could tell that lock-up was engaging and dis-engaging when I put my foot on the pedal, or took it off. After 55MPH, I could'nt really tell. The brake seems to have to affect on the lockup at all.

Another problem is that after driving like today, about an hour, all the shift points get screwed up, for example first no longer changes until like 30MPH, second until 60 or so and it will stay in third until I hit 85 than it downshifts to 2nd and it doesnt sound happy at all!

I just can't wait till I swap out this POS 350 for a 200. I'm sorry, but I have NEVER had this kind of trouble with the 200's, as said so many times my last one lasted till 150K miles. This TH350 on the other hand has only made it to over 86,000 miles (or was it 89,000?).

BUT! I still need this car and the 350 has got to last me another 1000miles or so, I just dont think the lucas stop slip will hold it forever.

Maybe it's getting too hot and causing the late shifts? I get burned instantly if I touch the transmission pan after driving it for a good half hour or so.

I have to be in columbia MD at 9:00am tomorrow, so I'm hoping to whatever god might be out there that it makes it! Or I might just borrow my moms lancer turbo hehe. Round trip for both days of training is gonna be over 250 miles.

Also got to add, being stuck in 2nd isnt such a bad thing. It feels great to step on the gas and watch it climb to 60 from 40mph. Like running 4.10s!
