It really is bad. Same crap around here, A/C, Plumbing, & sadly Brass/Bronze plaques from Veterans graves.
My parents were renovating a couple of rental houses, as soon as the A/C units were placed they were gone the next morning. Had to have steel cages built around them.
Ex-wife's meth head cousin stole his own Mom's car & sold it for more dope. I told him if I saw him anywhere around my home it would be his last visit.

OMG!

That all sounds like a really bad remake of "The Night of the Living Dead"!

It has been a long-time observation that the things that we find shocking here have been going on in the larger centers for about 5-10 years ...

Craziness and evil are like cancer, so it sounds like we don't have much to look forward to.

Well, the public won't have to support them and dry them out in jail. Taxpayer furnished burial is cheaper. I just don't feel sorry for them at all...

Just remind me not to buy a catalytic converter in Canada... Since the police report also said "particulate filter" I assume it was a newer diesel. Even so, over $6K is a highly inflated value "estimate".

Do we need to stick a fork in them to see if they are done?

Yup, *pretty darn sure* that I pointed out the year / make / model / engine in my original post, although I was not aware at that time that it included the "particulate filter" which I presume to be used in conjunction with DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid)

So do me a favor. Please phone YOUR local Dodge dealer, and ask for the suggested retail price, and post it back here.

I can tell you that it's not unusual for Canadian prices to be somewhat higher than in the US. They *used to* be able to blame that on the exchange rate.

DAMN!! $3500 for the converter, $1500 for the particulate filter. Discounted factory prices -- $5K. From a dealer at retail $6K+ sounds about right. What the heck are they making those things out of? I know there is some precious metal (platinum) inside, I guess those need to be really big and use a lot! Most converters are well under $500 brand new.

"What!, Really?" was my intial reaction as well.

I work in the (NAPA) parts biz for half of my life, and worked for Ford for the other. I'm not easy to shock, but that did it.

We often feel like we should be wearing a mask and holding a gun, when someone asks for a price for expensive items.

Conversely, it drives me nuts when some guy driving a $60,000 "Cowboy Cadillac" (or $250K motorhome) snivels and whines about a $25.00 fuel filter.

I've lost 2 friends recently to drugs; meth and bath salts.

When we still had the farm, we had a fairly large tank of anhydrous ammonia. Some methed out POS's showed up with a coleman chest cooler and some 5gallon jerrycans. Im not sure what they were gonna do with those. My grandad let the 2 great danes out and grabbed his M1 Garand and went out, but they were LONG gone. It happened twice more (meth heads trying to steal stuff) one got maimed in the barbed wire fence...he didn't seem affected.
One of the many reasons we quit farming. Meth and Bath Salts are the worst things to happen to this country.
