Cool 65 Chevelle I see around town isn't so cool anymore. :(

Looks like he got a little wild around a corner today in the rain.

I don't which is worse, that he is going the wrong way or that he is on the sidewalk.

Might have something to do with what he was doing when he smacked it up..

It is a pretty big turn going from a pretty large street to another large one with the entrance to the freeway right behind the car in the photo. I can see that people could be making a pretty high speed run there hitting the freeway on a very large sweeping entrance hauling balls. I still can't figure out if he hit that pole with such force that it simply bounced off spinning the car the other way? Or did he somehow back it up and turn it around? I can't see that happening without him going off the sidewalk, and if you did that wouldn't you just stay there and drive it away? I know that if you were to keep going straight it is quite aways before you could pull it off the street safe. It goes up over the freeway with no side streets or lights for over a quarter mile from this spot I would think. He may have thought he'd turn it around and go back (middle of the night dark, no traffic?) where there is a gas station just back around the corner.

You know the funny thing, the Fremont Drag strip was right over this overpass to the left (now a shopping mall OF COURSE) and this gas station I am mentioning was the closest one to the strip with the next closest being miles. They sold race gas and street cars that didn't have such a good time a the strip often ended up at there waiting for a tow or repair.

God it was a different town back then.

This is what the strip looked like in 1977 the year I graduated high school.
The street where this Chevelle is on on is to the left of this photo and not seen. But you can see what the area looked like.

Here is what it looked like a few years ago, and there are way more stores there now! "Automall parkway" to the left of the photo is where this Chevelle is at. You can see across the freeway (880) it is COVERED in industrial buildings.

What years are we talking? Washington and Fremont is my moms neighborhood having been born in a house (still there) right at the top of the hill going up Washington towards Mission bl. Where were you working across from NUMMI? My first job was across the street from NUMMI at "GT Auto Restoration".

Washington/Fremont/Bay-----lived on Bay street

Part time job at a print shop across from Nummi in 93/4
Full time job with my current company (no longer there) 92-94
on Mission Falls Ct.

South 40 Club-----nice place
Bartender there would take my keys upon entering if I came in with a particular girl. Yep--her keys would be gone as well.

If this particular girl and I came in together----we were to be carried home that night. Great drinking buddy.

Never dated her----but we drank together quite a bit.

I no longer do that----couple of beers and I am done
A couple of cocktails with dinner occasionally and I am done.
Usually the designated driver when I travel now.
