Question Coolant problem solved, but why?

I posted a problem I had with my 455 puking coolant everytime I stopped. It never ran hot, just marked it's spot each time. The problem was solved when I took advise of this forum and went from a 7 lb cap to a 13-14 lb cap. I added a puke tank, but It was not needed. It is still bone dry. I drainred the radiator and followed the suggested filling process by the anti-freeze manufacturer. I am convinced the cap made all the difference, but I don't know why.

Can anyone enlighten me?

You basically doubled the ammount of pressure that can build up in the radiator before puking. As the water gets hot the pressure builds, your old cap opened at 7lbs, now it takes approx 14 lbs of pressure to open, so no more puking.

Increasing pressure will also increase the boiling point of water.

When you went to a higher rated poundage cap then you increase the temps the water will boil away.

Thats why you see instant steam when opening a hot system.
