cooling issues

okay i am trying to cool a 427 BB with an automatic trans, i was wondering if i could get a universal aluminum radiator and then get a separte transmission cooler if it would work.

There's no reason it wouldn't work, and there are also at least a couple of companies who also sell universal aluminum radiators with a built-in trans cooler. Check the Jegs or Summit catalogs to take a look at them.

okay so should i measure my factory radiator and try to find the closest one to would match the factory or should i just go with a direct fit one?

I'd go with direct fit if you are willing to spend the money. A direct fit Be Cool radiator for a '94 Impala with auto trans is about $700 from Jegs. The universal fit is only about $250, but you'll spend more time getting it to installed and adapting it to your car.
