Cooling question
I am building a tube chassis, sbc 350, 700R4, narrowed 9' Ford rear 1969 VW Squareback station wagon. I will also be running A/C. Question I have is this. I have a new aluminum radiator (fits 78-80 Camaro) with an electric fan/shroud that puts out 1800 CFM The car will probably weigh in at about 2,500 pounds. My question is. Can I just ran this fan only, without a water pump fan? Mainly due to room restrictions.

Yes, lots of guys run an electric fan only. Get a temperature controller though, do depend on yourself turning of a toggle switch like some guys do.:pain:

Why not just run the fan all the time ? After all a mechanical fan runs full time !

Fan
Thanks for the replies about the cooling fan. So, if I use a thermostatically controlled fan switch, that should be all I need? No mechanical fan, right?

A thermostatically controlled fan should keep you cool. You can always install 2 of them with higher capacity later if you need it. |
It would be a good idea to use a shroud too. What size fan is it?
|
Good shrouding is absolutely needed as a lot of cooling issues come from lack of airflow to the radiator and also allowing for evacuation of hot air from the engine compartment..You may spend a lot of time designing and fabricating the radiator shroud..
