Correct size Welting Foot?
Hello everyone,
I just bought a "new to me" Consew 206RB-1 machine and am wondering what is the most common size welting foot used in custom interiors? I'm sure there is a lot of personal taste involved in this decision, but I'm looking for a more modern style welting like Paul Atkins' street rod interiors or even the updated Retro style of Fat Lucky's. Any input would be great. Thanks in Advance, BobbyV |
Welt cord is sized in 32nds of an inch. The most common welt cord is 5/32 and 4/32. The rule of thumb is to add 3/32 to the size of the welt cord to get the correct size welt foot. 5/32 plus 3/32 is 8/32 or 1/4", and that is the size welt foot to use on 5/32 and 4/32 welt cord. If you use 3/32 welt cord, you add 3/32 to get 6/32, or 3/16" which is the correct size welt foot for
3/32 welt cord. You are correct that the size of welt cord you use is a personal preference. |
Thanks Dan, very informative. =)
Is anyone using a welting foot smaller than 1/4" on your custom interiors? Thanks, Bobby V |
Personally, I try to talk anybody who wants welts out of the idea. They are the first things to get screwed up.

Lol. I understand. But a retro tuck-n-roll would look a little weird without it. 😃
