correct way to wire ignition and starter, alternator

tried wiring my 1963 ford f100 which now has a 351w from a 1978 model ford, i am attempting to change wiring harness but the wires for ignition switch were cut and couldnt wire it correctly would turn over but will not stay running when key in run postion

Quick answer is when in run the ignition switch needs to supply power to the ignition system. You need to get a meter and a diagram. The 63 most likely has a resistance wire for run and a full battery power feed to the ignition for starting that comes from the solenoid. Sounds like your run wire is not connected.

Ford

Ford resistance wire to coil is probably pink in color or pink with a stripe 1963 and 1964 had these as I remember with mine..
