Corvair Door Panels...Damn Nails !

Can those nail strips be dumped for something like the spring pins that many other cars used?

You can purchase new nail strip from Clarks Corvair Parts.

Yes, you can do that if you are using new door panels or making your own. The panels for the '65-'69 Corvair are held on by Au-Ve-Co 12134 panel fasteners. The nails were on the '60 - '64 Corvairs. Some Chevys of the 1950's door panels were attached with the nails also.

You will need to take the nails out of the holes in the car's door and enlarge the holes to accommodate the new clips. (about a 1/4" hole) You will also need to have holes in your panel boards for the new clips. These clips are offset, so the corresponding hole in the panel has to be 1/2" in further from the edge of the panel, and not directly over the hole in the door. This will be a very hard job if you are not replacing the door panel boards, or making door panels from scratch.
