Crown and Kelmark used to make adapters for a V8 in the back seat swap in Corvairs. You may be able to find one of those, One company turned the transaxle around, the other did not.

About the direction.......You may be able to flip the ring gear to get the right direction, if it's wrong....not sure. There were a few Corvair guys around here last year....might be looking in.

My point is, that the 4.3 GM uses the same bell housing pattern as the SB v8 Chevy, so it would work for you. I doubt if there were any other adapters available.

You could still put the motor out back. I remember seeing pictures of Buick Aluminum v8s in the rear of Corvairs in the 60s.

Try this place. http://www.corvair.com/user-cgi/main

I've always heard that Honda engines rotate backwards, at least the early ones. You may want to research that. The only carbureted Honda engines would be on early models. Kennedy Engineered Products (http://www.kennedyeng.com/) makes adaptors for all kinds of engine/tranny combos.

corvair swap

Hi I know I am a bit late to the party, but how about some out of the box thinking? Consider if you will..... A Subaru flat six 2.5 or 3.3L out of a WRX or STi mounted mid-engine style, with an acompanying electronically shifted automatic or a stout 6 speed manual. This would eliminate the weak link corvair Diff and adapting a strange engine to the vair transaxle. The rotational direction conserns, Then other than fabricating an engine cradle you only have to adapt the Subie axles to the existing vair axles. ofcourse you still have all the wiring linkages and plumbing that would come with any other water cooled engine swap. The aluminum engine, low center of gravity and large supply of aftermarket parts is an interesting concept.

Did you try the Crown conversion kit? It adapts the Chevy V-8 to the corvair, and the GM 4.3 (or 4.2L) engine will go directly in there too.
