Corvair Powerglide

I have always been around hot rodders from the old days and have learned a lot of shop tricks to make things better for little bucks. I have found myself with a new project and parts that I am unfamiliar with. I am working on a 1962 Corvair Greenbriar that has a powerglide trans. I am having the engine built for it but I need to do some work with the tranny and I have been told by one or two people who have never worked on these that they are tha same as any other powerglide internally. If this is so, I can work with it. Are they right? Does anyone have experience with this tranny? I know that Pontiac used these in early Tempest. Can I build it up to be more streetable?
I appreciate any help out there. I am having Rafee build the engine as soon as we find one I want to use. I have three Corvairs and four engine.

We are here!! yes as far as I know the Corvair is similar to the regular glide. Check with Hughes performance for parts and such for that..

Thanks Sam. I was beginning to wonder if I had stumbled onto something
no one knows about. It is a strange set up for a powerglide, but internally, as far as I can tell, should be the same thing. This is buildable. I do appreciate any help, this project is for the wife.

For Corvair parts and technical info/advice, contact Clark's Corvair Parts in Shelburne Falls, MA. They've been in business for a long time and will be able to help you with your Corvair project needs. They have stock replacement parts and speed parts as well.

The Corvair Powerglide is very similar to other PGs, but not everything internally is the same. For example, the pump is not even close to being the same.
