Could this affect performance?

Hello.
I recently took my narrowed 10 bolt out to have it checked. It was making a lot of noise and had some crazy play in the yolk. The fella who's gonna fix it said that it needed all new bearings. He said the carrier bearing looked like it was chewed up and had a ton of play in it.
Question? Could this affect the way the power in the car felt? This setup was in my dads pro street Mazda and even though its a glide and little over a stock motor, my dad had no trouble smoking the tires at will, but I couldnt hardly get mine to turn em over. Could this affect my power or should I be concerned about something else? Tnx, HG
Oh yea, my cars a few hundrede lbs lighter than his to. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">
