could it be the starter?

Ok guys yesterday I had my old mans car&the battery light came on not shortly after all of the lights dimed so I pulled over&the car died.Had it towed home.Took a battery that I know is goood&put it in there&the lights came on strong I tried to crank her over&the started made a real weak waaa waaa waaa sound like it wasn't getting juice I've heard bad starters make this noise before. So I put in another good battery I just fully charged&tryd to jump the starter solenoid &same noise.I'm guessing its the starter but how could it of made the car die?btw all my connections are nice clean&tight.

Take the battery to your local auto store and have it tested.

I might be the alternator

With a known good battery, as you have stated, it's got to be a connection (dirty terminals) loose grn etc.... or a bad starter soleniod. I don't think a bad starter will kill the engine, do think a bad alt and a dead battery will. Not all batteries are created equal and I have learned over the years a battery that will light the lights may not have enough juice to turn the starter over.
