Couple Basic Tranny ?s

So I'm planning on changing out the 4-spd granny in my '69 Chevy K-10 4x4 for a 400TH. I know I used to buy rebuilt 350TH's for my '66 El Camino about every 9-12mos and swap them out in a few hours for about $350-$400. YES I used and abused that car in highschool. But, that was oh....15yrs ago. Wow, how the time flies!!! However, I've never messed with manuals other than driving them, and I've never messed with 4x4s.

My questions are.....
What's a rebuilt 400TH with a shift kit gonna run me?

What's the deal with the transfer cases, are they interchangable between manuals and autos? Or will I need to get a new one also?

Anything special need done other than shortening the driveshaft, and working out the linkage?

it has been a while since I removed a truck 4 speed for an automatic installation.... the t-400 out put shaft is larger than the 4-speed out put shaft.

the t-350 out put would be the same diameter as the 4-speed manual as i recall.

correct adapters are needed between the trans and t-case for what ever tranny you use.

I am sure other folks will chime in and point out the errors in my info.

cost: 500.00 to 1500.00 is a guess
