A good priced or cheap leather is not a smart thing to buy. If you are going to do leather, dont go cheap. Low cost leather just plain sucks. It will be stiff, hard to work with, and wont last long. If you are wanting to save money, go with a soft leather imitation.

i don't want to buy cheap. i know leather is pricey but i look at this like an investment i don't want to spend more than i should thats why i need a place to buy a good quality leather at the right price..

i like to buy mobil1 engine oil and i can get it at local autoparts stores like pepboys, autozone, kragen . i really see a diference using this oil compared to other ones .. the engine idles better, at oil changes it's cleaner and the engine sounds better ...but i end up buying it at wal-mart because i get the same product same quality same presentation but at a considerably lower price, I think it's the right place to go to buy that engine oil... i just need to find the right placel to buy my leather (damn wal-mart doesn't sell leather)

When buying leather, look for a hide that has been Milled. Milling is the term used for tumbling a hide to work in softness. When talking to a supplier ask what the BLC softness rating is. I would recommend a BLC of 4 to 4.5

Also be aware that gluing the hide in preparation to applying it to a panel will stiffen it up. Softer hides and thinner hides are critical, buying a hide sight un seen is very risky as they very quite a bit hide to hide.

If you cant lay hands on the hide you are buying reconsider Krists comments. Ultra leather makes a vinyl that is difficult to distinguish from leather when applied to a panel.

I recommend that if you are not planning on putting closed high density foam on it. I would suggest that you use hide glue (used in saddle making, Tandy Leather sell it) to mount it to the fiberglass especially if you are putting it on a dash.
