Crack around striker

I'm getting ready to redo the doors on my thunderbird and figured maybe I'd try to fix a crack around the driver-side striker. It's not broken all the way around, the door still closes.. but I don't know if this is the sort of thing that you can just seal the crack and move on.. I've been told that this sort of thing requires the metal to be cut out.. weld in a steel plate and start fresh. Anyone ever fix a cracked striker area before it breaks completely, or do you have to cut it out and start over once it starts cracking?

thank for reading..

(just to add, I don't know how the crack started, or how long its been that way.. bought it a few months ago and have just been driving it to and from work)

surely the doors are sagging due to severely worn hinge pins

and is why the striker is doing this

what year is this car ??

90s ?

designs of these parts are totaly different

the 94-97 are the worst for this problem

will need to weld to repair it

could grind it in a V and weld into it and grind smooth to repair the crack and stop it

sometimes drilling a hole at the end of the crack will stop it also.

yeah, I already have pins and bushings to do the hinges.. I just wanted to confirm my suspicion that the crack around the striker is beyond my ability to repair at home. (I'm a welderless non-welder)

It's a 95

I was pretty sure this was too high stress of an area to seal with anything. How much should I be willing to pay someone to do (a good job on) this?

(I really appreciate your fast response )

That cracked like that because of a sagging door. if you already have new pins and bushings then the crack will have to be welded and ground down then finished with filler and finally painted. when the striker is removed you need to check behind it to see how far the damage is. cole
