crank key fitment

Hey everyone,

Ran into an interesting situation I'd never seen before...

I purchased a Mr. Gasket crank key (short style) for my 350 chevy crank (Eagle, 4340 forged)

When I place the key in the slot, it sits very loose in the slot. I tapped on it with a plastic hammer, but it still falls out.

Did I need to use a long style crank key or something?

Can I just loctite the key in there, or just leave it loose, cause when i install the cam gear and balancer, there's not really any way for those keys to come out, right?

What do you guys think?

thanks in advance

Key

[color=orange]Doc here

Go to your local Ace Hardware, or Home Depot and pick up the right key for it.... Is that Keyway Tapered? or just straight?

I wouldn't install it without it even if :"it Would Never fall out in a Million Years..."

My Murphy Calendar Runs in millennium's... ya know?

Sounds like you got the wrong key, it should be a tap fit or at least snug in the slot.

Isn't a millennium 1000 years?

Anyways, I'll try the long style key and see if I get better results. Too bad summit charges me $8.95 shipping for a $2.95 part.

Thanks guys

The keyway is probly not correct in the crank. . very common with the offshore stuff lately. You may also want to check your damper fit, I have had many customers with dampers that just slide on. . .no press.
