crankshaft on 454

when rebuilding my engine ,does the crank shaft matter ? replasing the stock crank or should i get another one ? My uncle was also telling me to get a RV crank and cam ? what do you guys think ? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

if there we no spun bearings in the engine, then have the crank`s clearences checked at a machine shop and they`ll tell you if it needs turned or not. a RV cam will make a 454 a real stump puller and is pretty much ideal for the street or pulling a heavy load. as for a RV crank, there is no such thing. there`s a Forged steel crank, and a cast iron crank, the forged has a large parting line, the cast will have a thin parting line. either will work fine on the street, although a forged crank is stronger and can take more high RPM abuse than a cast crank. If there`s nothing wrong with your crank there`s no need to replace it, just have the clearences checked at a machine shop.
