crankshaft balancing?

if i have an external balanced typed crankshaft do i still have to take it to the machine shop for "balancing" ?

"if " i have to get it balnced all i have to take down to the 'ol machine shop would be the crank, balancer , & flexplate/flywheel?? right??

Crank, rods, pistons w/pins & even rings in some cases...? Balancer, flex plate...

But also if your going to run a high lift cam you might possibly want to do a pre-assembly and check valve clearances and consider you may have to fly cut the pistons which will change the weight also... (Do before the balance)

balancing act

Whether you have an internally or exterally balanced engine is irrelevant. Having your engine dynamically balanced requires all the parts of the reciprocating engine. This includes the crankshaft, flywheel or flex plate, harmonic balancer, pistons, rods, bearings, and rings, cam drive gear on the crank, and key that locates the cam drive gear. Some even go so far as to include the torque converter if its automatic, or clutch disc and pressure plate, if standard shift.
Dittos what was said in the previous post about checking valve clearances with the pistons first. Having pistons flycut does change the weight.

ok i see

so i should just leave the block down there (at the machine shop) and take 'em all the "internal guts" down there and have em balance it?

that'll work that will give me a few more days or so to get the rest of the parts, because there really swawmped down there

as far as the pistons they should be alright there 12cc d-dish

thanx, J
