Crankshaft end play

Allow me to first say thankyou to all those who provided this souce of information. I'm looking forward to both receiving and giving of any info that i can. My question is, what is the maximum amount of crankshaft end play i can have on an earlier model chevy 350-4-bolt main block. (probably around 1978 thru 1983. It has the double rear main seal. I can get a .013 feeler gage in. Is there any thing I can do to tighten this up, or do I need a new crankshaft.

The maximum if I remember right from a past spec is .020
Your under that so you should be okay.
However it is important to make sure it`s measured correctly.

You can sometimes force a thicker feeler gauge into a gap then the gap actually is. I would recheck the crankshaft end play with a dial indicator.
You can get main bearings with a thicker thrust surface on them.

If it is being measured w/a new thrust bearing, I would consider 0.013" excessive, but not terminally so. I look for under 0.008" and at least 0.003" (with a new bearing), and the two bearing halves should measure very close to each other.

I believe there are oversize thrust bearings available. I don't know who has them or what OS they come in, I'd look to the major bearing suppliers catalogs.
