Yes, Chevrolet did build a 302 to meet SCCA cubic inch limit of 305. They were & still are a great engine. I wish someone would make a 3 inch stroke crank that didn't have the expense of a custom ground crank. I'm fortunate to actually own a 68 Z28 RS that I bought in 1981 for $1800.00
You dont need a custom ground crank, just use the GEN 2 L99 4.3L V8 crankshaft in a 350 block. Voila 302, 3" stroke, 4" bore. The L99 uses LT1 style heads, but the heads arent the same as the Lt1.
LT4 heads on a 302. That would rev.
Someone mentioned the 1970 1/2 LT-1 made 350 hp, it was actually rated at 370 gross hp. And it still wasmt the highest rated smallblock, the 1964-5 327 Vette engine actually was rated at 375 gross hp. The new LT1 of 1993 actually outpowers them all with 300 NET hp.
