Chevy 302 cu.in. small block
I know I'm pretty late on this discussion, but I'm relatively new to this site and just found this thread.
I would like to add my 2 cents on Chevrolet's 302 screamer.
My dad raced open wheeled dirt cars (modifieds) in the midwest back in the early-mid 90's. The power plant was a CHEVY 302 cu.in. small block.
This motor was absolutely WICKED! It had Brodix aluminum heads, 14.5:1 compression, solid roller cam, and ran on alcohol with a Scott floatless carb. No exaggeration, when that thing fired up it sounded like a top fuel dragster. He would run it around the track at 9500 RPM all night long.
In a pack of 20 other cars, you could hear his car 5 octaves above everyone elses. In fact, the announcer made the comment that he was running a 6 cylinder. I have seen first hand the power of the mighty 302 Chevy.
